LHS Swim Parent 101
Feeling lost, confused or are you just curious and excited? Then you've come to the right place! Below are a few of the FAQ's that many of the new to LHS swim parents have. Please feel free to contact us if your question isn't addressed below.
Where are swim practices held?
Practice is held at the Apache Blockhouse Creek Pool located at: 3100 Blockhouse Creek Drive, Leander TX.
When are practices held?
Practices are held each morning before school at 7:00 am each day except Wednesday, which starts at 8:00 am and is a weight room work out at the school.
Do they swim in the cold and rain?
Swimmers are expected to arrive on time ready to swim even in cold and rainy weather. The pool is heated and protected by covers over night. However, if the weather is extreme or there is lightning, there is a chance it will be cancelled. All swimmers are contacted via Coach's text messages. Be sure to register for Coach's Remind texts.
How do swimmers get to the Apache Pool in the morning?
Swimmers must provide their own transportation to the pool. A bus will transport students to LHS following practice to begin the school day. Students will spend 30 minutes in Study Hall as a team in the Coach's classroom and must be present by 9:45 a.m. for attendance. Students should have assignments to work on or a book to read.
Where and when are swim meets held?
Home meets are hosted by LHS Swim Team at the Apache Blockhouse Creek Pool. Warm-up begins around 7:30 a.m. and the meet begins around 9:00 a.m. Meets last about 3 hours followed by clean-up. All parents are asked to volunteer in some capacity. See below for more information on how you can help.
How long does the season last?
The season runs from September through early February. There are about 6 home meets held in September and October followed by various Invitational meets. There are also qualifying meets such as TISCA, Districts and Regionals. In March, swimmers begin off-season training which includes about two days of conditioning (running, weight lifting and core work) and three days of swimming.
What if my swimmer can't make it to practice or a meet?
All swimmers are expected to attend each practice and meet. For more information on what to do in the event of illness or unexpected events, please refer to the LHS Swimmer Handbook.

Volunteers are needed at swim meets for:
What about Fundraisers?
The Booster Club hosts various fundraising efforts to help finance travel expenses, and the end of the year banquet. All families are asked to participate in any way possible. We are always looking for sponsors. If you own your own business or if your family would like to be a sponsor please visit our Sponsor Page for more information.
Some of our past fundraisers include:
Swimming Fundraiser

So what is the Booster Club and who should join?
The LHS Swim Team Booster club is a non-profit parent run organization. Our sole purpose is to support our Swimmers and Coach. We have monthly meetings to discuss financial needs, volunteer needs, plan social and fundraising events. Most meetings are held at the Commons at LHS and are generally kept under an hour. Emails are sent out in advance with date, time and location. We look forward to meeting you!
